People have reported this issue in the past, and it was usually due to some other software trying to force itself into the foreground (which often causes fullscreen applications to minimize). Sometimes it's a chat program (I had similar issues with Google Talk), sometimes it's some program notification in the icon tray etc. but it's not always clear.
You said the problem started happening last night, so basically you have to ask yourself: what changed just before that? Did you install any new software that might now be running in the background?
If you're not sure what might be causing the issues, it's often helpful to try shutting down all unnecessary programs before launching the game. If the problem goes away, you know it was one of them. Then you can try starting them again, one by one, until the problem comes back to identify the culprit.
I would also recommend running msconfig and checking out what programs are launched at startup. It's probably one of those.

Just like dxdiag; open start menu and search "msconfig"
