Is it Russian Karelia, or occupied Finnish Karelia?

This is actually Russian Karelia, White sea fjords, so no offence at all... ))) However Karelia is an autonomous republic of ortodox finns - i.e. Karelians, althought they are a minority now I can also suggest that we put image or link to google map but i dont know how. Maybe like this: maps.google.com/maps?daddr=66.29006,33.647947&hl=ru&sll=66.293373,33.64563&sspn=0.485886,1.150818&mra=mift&mrsp=1&sz=9&t=m&z=9 (put full text into link)

Double-barrelled shotgun and a beekeeper's hut? Nice constellation ...but I assume it's a gnats-protection (the hut, not the weapon, before crazy people are giving their statements here )!? ...and a wonderful landscape

Ye, the hut is a gnats protection (and you really need it there since gnats are plenty and gone crazy) And the gun is a bear protection (i saw none so it was a useless 4kg burden - especially because i was doing scientific tascs not animal hunting) Here is some kind of story from tundra which can be used as Arma scenario: North-eastern shores of Russia are immense tundra territories with very small population (partly local caribou hunter tribes and partly russians). The tundra is actually a thin 0,5m layer of dirt and moss covering glacier-like ice deposits. Every summer many Mammoth bones melt out from the ice at seashore cliffs. The bone sells extreemely well in Europe and China, but Russian Government imposes strict quotes and organised a no-go national reserves in coastal tundra. However thousands of local smugglers (dear hunt and fishing are put aside) organised in small bands rush every summer to seashores in small motor boats or roam the coast in special tractors - like this rgocenter.ru/wa-data/public/blog/img/big_izobrazhenie-320.jpg . They take motorpumps to melt the cliffs and get bones out. Every settlement (there are about a dosen over here) sends like 20 smuggler tractors (some of these were bought cheep from abandoned soviet bases after its fall). Also smugglers have brought tractors by ice onto sea islands and made small bases there (which look like a couple of huts and many petrol barrels around) which they reach covertly by motor boats. Smugglers act like a local mafia with police unable to do anything against these men, even when they return back in autumn and go drinking and doing havoc just like a pirates after good raid. Smugglers often equip themselves very well, having got a sattellite phones, good scoped weapons etc. Border guards and some arctic SPETZNAZ units (usually a squad or platoon size) are patrolling the area in MI-8 helicopters. When they notice mammoth bone smugglers they arrest them and send back to the settlement with a fine. However more smugglers take their place immediately considering that after border guards fly away they can roam the shores safely. There were already instances when guards and smugglers exchanged fire. There vere armed pursuits also and stuff like this. After guards received thermal sights smugglers developed new tactics - they send small recon detachements to spot helicopters and dig their tractors deep into small river canyons. That would not be too unlikely to hear some day of a small scale battle at a smugglers base on a remote arctic island dao-news.com/science-and-technology/312-na-dalnem-vostoke-rossii-taet-vechnaya-merzlota-i-ona-vlechet-k-sebe-ohotnikov-za-bivnyami.htmlhttp://dao-news.com/science-and-technology/312-na-dalnem-vostoke-rossii-taet-vechnaya-merzlota-i-ona-vlechet-k-sebe-ohotnikov-za-bivnyami.htmlysia.ru/news/17026/v_abijskom_rajone_yakutii_oshtrafovani_ohotniki_za_mamontovimi_bivnyami.htmlok.ya1.ru/uploads/posts/2008-12/1228341336_dsc05003.jpgok.ya1.ru/uploads/posts/2008-12/1228341877_dscf1541.jpgok.ya1.ru/uploads/posts/2008-12/1228341922_dscf1546.jpg
